Frequently Asked Questions:
I heard you have a new phone system what's up with that?
We have switched to the Alcatel system to be able to handle our telephone calls in a more personal way. Instead of being sent to voice mail, all calls will be answered by our office staff. You have the option to leave a voicemail if you wish or call directly to an extension if you like.
I work during the week can I see my doctor on Saturday?
Dr. Carlson and Dr. Litoff have Saturday hours at the Hyde Park Office. Dr. Carlson is there on the first Saturday of the month and Dr. Litoff is there on the third Saturday of the month. We use that office as it is open every Saturday and is easier for us to use as they already have a support staff for to help you. Dr. Carlson's assistant Brenda will be there when he is there and Dr. Litoff's assistant Marilyn will be there when he is there. You can see any of the Hyde Park physicians there on Saturdays we are not there.

My cardiologist is at Northwestern can I still see him?
Yes you can see your cardiologist or other specialist as we feel that relationship is important. If you are hospitalized at Northwestern he will arrange for care there. We will follow you after discharge. Ask your specialist to send information to us so we can remain up to date with your care. If your specialist is not in your insurance network we can refer you to a specialist in our network.
Why can't I get a refill on my cholesterol medication, My numbers were "good" last year?
We don't want anyone to run out of medication that they need. However, if you haven't been to the office in over a year we will not be able to monitor the effects of that medication. You also will miss out on health maintenance you may need such as breast cancer or prostate cancer screening. Just call or send an email to schedule a visit and we will refill your prescription with enough medication until your appointment.
I called my pharmacy for a refill and they said I need "doctor's authorization" for more refills. How do I obtain that?
Use your pharmacy's electronic refill system. This will trigger a notification direct to your doctor through our electronic prescribing link to the pharmacy. This is usually faster than calling the office and is more accurate. If this doesn't work then go ahead and contact us.
